AI governance needs to work in everyday practice

How do guidelines become something employees can use? The discussion focused on the connections between instruction, access, responsibility and follow-up.

From the last Alliance meeting on

Access and understanding belong together.

An introduction to an AI tool can form part of gaining access to it. It should make clear which tasks the tool is intended for, what information may be used and when the employee should ask for help.

It should be clear who is responsible.

It should be clear who advises, who makes decisions and who follows up. This also applies when employees build their own assistants or start using new features.

Expertise needs to be maintained.

External support can help move the work forward. An important question is how the organisation can also become able to explain, apply and update its own framework.

What we take away

  • Connect instruction to employees' specific tasks.
  • Make responsibilities and the route to help clear.
  • Plan for internal expertise and ongoing maintenance from the outset.
