Morten Walsted

Senior Adviser · CIU · Centre for IT in Education

Morten Walsted is a specialist consultant at the Centre for IT in Education, CIU, working with generative AI and language models in the education sector. His responsibilities include prompting, implementation, advice and knowledge sharing with educational institutions. He also facilitates CIU's online AI updates, which explore new knowledge and technological opportunities in an educational context.

His experience includes organisational work on AI at Nordvestsjællands Erhvervs- og Gymnasieuddannelser, NEG. In a public case study, he describes a role spanning overarching AI strategy and skills development through to day-to-day support in staff teams. This provides a practical foundation for his work on how teachers and other staff learn to use new tools in their own roles.

At CIU, he participates in GenAISTEM and AI på ungdomsuddannelserne (AI in Upper Secondary Education). GenAISTEM connects research and school practice with the development of teaching materials and methods for technical vocational education. The project addresses teachers' understanding and use of generative AI in STEM subjects, bringing its findings together in reports and tools. Morten is thus part of cross-institutional work on both technological understanding and the development of teaching.

He co-authored the 2025 MONA article on the ATOM model as a dialogue tool for responsible AI use. The article connects AI with professional integrity and practical examples from carpentry, metalworking and process operator training. His professional profile is therefore concerned not only with what a language model can produce, but also with how the technology fits into a learning process, the questions it raises for professional practice, and how teachers and students can discuss its use in an informed way.
